Do you really understand your body? Human exploration of the human body began in ancient Greece, but we still do not fully understand this complex system. Physiological-related diseases such as ischemic heart disease, stroke, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease remain the leading causes of death globally. Human physiology aims to study the basic physiological processes that sustain our daily survival, focusing on how various systems work together to maintain homeostasis and provide theoretical support for repairing dysfunctional human systems. Combining knowledge of anatomy, histology, and pathology, physiology lays a solid foundation for modern medicine and disease treatment, bringing new treatment methods for the future and opening up broader prospects for human health.
The "BioX Human Physiology" course will cover multilayer physiological processes from cells to systems and deeply analyze the unique functions of major systems such as the nervous, muscular, digestive, and endocrine systems, as well as their mutual regulatory mechanisms. You will learn about the changes in each system under normal and dysfunctional states through exercise physiology experiments, histological observations, and case analyses, mastering the practical applications of physiology in medicine. The experimental section will guide you to personally experience animal dissection, design and execute multiple basic experiments, and explore how different physiological processes interact. Finally, you will have the opportunity to complete a final project themed on a specific physiological system, covering the complete research process from topic selection, experimental design, hypothesis formulation to data analysis and result presentation of the entire research process.

In my freshman year, I worked on a synthetic biology project at the School of Life Sciences, Jiao Tong University, where I improved the efficiency of vanillin production from fungal fermentation through gene editing. During my sophomore year, I joined the Shanghai Institute of Immunology to explore the regulatory role of metabolic protein homeostasis in T cell development. In my junior year, I had the opportunity to go to Harvard University to study aging in David Sinclair's lab for a year-long exchange. By reprogramming epigenetic inheritance to reverse optic nerve aging, we restored the vision of aging mice to that of young mice, and this project was published as a cover article in *Nature*. Due to the pandemic, I chose to take a gap after one semester of remote learning at UC San Diego, during which I conducted a combined analysis of spatial transcriptomics and single-cell transcriptomics of liver cancer at Tsinghua University.
