COURSE INTRO

Course Introduction 01

With the rapid development of nucleic acid and protein sequencing technologies, a large amount of biological data is constantly being generated: the data contains new cell types, new anti-cancer genes, and even special cell development processes... Biological data analysis has become the key to unlocking the mysteries of life, and the development of computers has made bioinformatics possible. At the same time, the application of integrating computer technology and mathematical models will accelerate the decryption of human life. The intersection with computers has led to revolutionary developments in life sciences and has become an inevitable trend in future discipline development.

"What XA has brought to me, the improvement of CS literacy goes without saying, but what I am more grateful for is being able to meet the top and most outstanding peers of my age. I have seen living MIT, CIT students, consulted TAs who can do nothing but debug, and also gained a bunch of board game friends. Perhaps saying that my dream is to change the world will be laughed at by people, but XA has given me the confidence to turn my dreams into reality."

This road is long, and the places to go are filled with poetry and ideals. The tears and sweat left behind yesterday make me more tenacious and courageous now. This is what XA has taught me: we can always be a little braver."

Sunnie Ma

PhD Candidate, Stanford University

B.S. in Computer Science, Stanford University, Minor in Biology

Previously interned at Shanghai Cancer Institute, where I wrote a review on the impact of TERT promoter mutations on the development of liver cancer, published in Heptoma Research. Also interned as an algorithm engineer at IBM China and developed the OpenAttack toolkit at Tsinghua THUNLP Lab.

Qianchang Wang

PhD Candidate, University of Cambridge

B.S., Harvey Mudd College

Double major in Mathematics & Computational Biology, Minor in Political Science

Fascinated by exploring and understanding the essence of things. Passionate and determined about the interdisciplinary research of systems biology, synthetic biology, and immunology. Joined the iGEM team at MIT in 2017 and participated in the design and research of CRISPR-dCas13a for RNA splicing regulation in the Weiss Lab. From 2018 to 2020, joined the Banchereau Lab at the Jackson Laboratory to discover potential pathogenic isoforms/neoantigens using LR-Seq from a more upstream perspective. In 2021, joined the Shalek Lab at MIT to study the pathogenic mechanisms of different diseases, including tuberculosis and pneumonia (COVID-19), using scRNA-seq. Enjoys exchanging ideas with explorers from different disciplines, learning their unique ways of thinking and perspectives. In addition to modern science, also has a great interest in Daoist philosophy and traditional Chinese medicine.

AZ Zhang

Double major in Molecular Cell Biology and Computer Science, with a minor in Bioengineering, University of California, Berkeley

Passionate about bridging the gap between traditional genetic research and computational biology. Joined the Wang Lab at UC San Francisco in 2022 to assist in the research of gene mechanisms behind mouse brain vascular malformations and tumor vascularization using computer vision and spatial scRNA-seq. Joined the Ünal and Brar Labs at UC Berkeley in 2023 to start working with human cell cultures. Employed various sequencing methods at different stages of the physiognomy center law and machine learning in the era of integrated genomics.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the student-teacher ratio in the major courses?

In each year's X ACADEMY summer program, the ratio of mentors to explorers is 1:5, with 1-2 mentors and 2-5 course assistants (academic leaders) in each course. Compared to traditional large classes, you will have more abundant opportunities for communication and learning.

I heard that the major courses of X ACADEMY are very hardcore. Will I fall behind when the course starts?

Can I only study one major course at X ACADEMY?

OUR CIVILIZATION WAS BUILT ON TECHNOLOGY. OUR CIVILIZATION IS BUILT ON TECHNOLOGY. TECHNOLOGY IS THE GLORY OF HUMAN AMBITION AND ACHIEVEMENT, THE SPEARHEAD OF PROGRESS, AND THE REALIZATION OF OUR POTENTIAL. FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS, WE PROPERLY GLORIFIED THIS – UNTIL RECENTLY. WE, AT X ACADEMY, ARE HERE TO REVITALIZE THAT SPIRIT. TO US, THE FUTURE IS A CANVAS OF VAST POSSIBILITY, PAINTED WITH THE BRUSHES OF INNOVATION, CREATIVITY, AND OPTIMISM. WE BELIEVE IN A FUTURE WHERE TECHNOLOGY CONTINUES TO BE THE BACKBONE OF ADVANCEMENT, NOT JUST IN MATERIAL TERMS BUT AS A MEANS TO ELEVATE HUMAN EXPERIENCE AND CONSCIOUSNESS. WE ARE THE FUTURE OPTIMISTS, THE DREAMERS, THE MAKERS, AND THE DOERS. WE STAND READY TO COLLABORATE, TO INNOVATE, AND TO BUILD A BETTER TOMORROW WITH YOU. JOIN US, AS WE EMBARK ON THIS JOURNEY TO IGNITE THE FLAMES OF PROGRESS AND TO CHERISH THE TECHNOLOGY THAT MAKES IT POSSIBLE. IT IS TIME, ONCE AGAIN, TO RAISE THE TECHNOLOGY FLAG. IT IS TIME TO BE TECHNO-OPTIMISTS. WITH X ACADEMY, LET'S BUILD A BRIGHTER FUTURE TOGETHER.
